About Us

The first litigation funder in Germany

The success story of FORIS started with an innovation in 1998: the invention of commercial litigation funding. A lot has happened since then. Learn more about our structure and development.

Our corporate structure

The FORIS AG is a publicly traded stock corporation. The majority of shares is held by private investors. We have no parent corporation and are thereby the largest German independent litigation funder. Working with the market leader has several advantages: firstly, due to our independence, there are absolutely no conflicts of interest; we do not have to be concerned about the interests of a parent corporation. Secondly, for us, it is irrelevant who you are up against, and we will not back down from financially stronger opponents. We decide and direct on the basis of one criteria only: what is best for your case.

Thomas Abrokat

Head of Finance

Thomas Abrokat heads Accounting and Controlling at FORIS. His responsibilities comprise managing all commercial aspects within the FORIS group of companies.

Before joining FORIS, Thomas worked in various financial management roles at banks, factoring and leasing companies. From 2015 through 2019 he was in charge of the local German accounting and financial statements of SANTANDER Bank Group. At Volvo Auto Bank, Thomas was responsible for both local and international accounting and regulatory reporting since 2003. During this time he was involved in the qualifying examination for the Deposit Protection Fund of the Association of German Banks, in the introduction of ABS financing and in extensive due diligence audits.

Thomas Abrokat studied business administration at the University of Trier with a focus on tax after completing an apprenticeship as a banker at Commerzbank Düsseldorf. As a business graduate, he then worked for two years in Auditing at KPMG Cologne as well as 1.5 years in Venture Capital.

Ms Harenberg studied law at the University of Bonn. She was called to the bar in 2004 and has worked as a lawyer for FORIS AG since 2010.

Kristen Harenberg has extensive knowledge of practising law and is extremely adept in matters of strategies and tactics in civil suits from her many years working for FORIS AG.

She is a member of the Bonner Bar Association e.V., the German Bar Association’s (DAV) , the Banking Law Association – Scientific Association for Banking Law e.V. and the DAV’s consortium on family law.

Edgar Stieglitz studied law at the University of Münster. He was called to the bar in 2001 and has worked as a lawyer for FORIS AG since 2006.

Edgar Stieglitz has extensive knowledge of practising law and is adept in matters of strategies and tactics in civil suits from his many years of experience as a lawyer.

He is a member of the German Bar Association (DAV), Cologne Bar Association (KAV), the DAV’s consortium on labour law, the German Society for Construction Law, GRUR, and the German Federal Association of Company Lawyers (BUJ).

Markus Glaser takes care of complex disputes in insolvency and company law.

Before joining FORIS, he worked for almost six years at the German litigation funding firm LEGIAL AG in the field of insolvency law. There he examined the chances of success and the enforceability of claims in the area of insolvency-, company and D&O Insurance law. In addition, he collected on his career experiences at the law firm Brinkmann & Partner such as at boutique law firm, specialized in litigation for insolvency administrators.

Markus Glaser studied at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, graduated his Referendariat also in Munich and admitted to the bar in 2013.

Dr. Warlich studied law and European business law at the University of Würzburg and earned her PhD with a thesis in inheritance law at the University of Bayreuth. She was admitted to the bar in 2007, is a certified specialist for tax law and has joined FORIS AG as in-house counsel in 2020.

Before joining FORISAG, Dr. Warlich worked in a law firm specialized on inheritance law and banking and capital markets law for more than a decade. She has represented clients in numerous banking and capital markets lawsuits. Further, she has advised clients in matters in corporate, commercial and inheritance law matters and has advised them in tax planning and tax investigation cases. At FORIS AG, Dr. Warlich is responsible for the firm’s dispute funding practice. Insofar, she manages all related litigation and arbitration.

Christoph Schubert takes care of complex disputes in commercial law across all industries and, as a lawyer, heads a litigation funding team.

Before joining FORIS, he worked for many years in the German commercial law firm GÖRG and the major international law firm DLA Piper in the area of litigation/arbitration. His main areas of practice were the enforcement of claims in insolvency proceedings and D&O liability cases including D&O insurance law. In addition, he often advised his clients in corporate law and contract law disputes. Furthermore, he has many years of experience in difficult negotiations for out-of-court enforcement of claims.

Christoph Schubert studied at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster and, before being admitted to the bar in 2010, worked for several years as a lecturer for the nationwide revision course Jura Intensiv, where he prepared students for the first state examination in law.

Andreas advises in English and German.

Doina studied linguistics and has worked at FORIS AG since 2008.

She is responsible for advising law offices, notaries and companies on all issues concerning the incorporation/formation and services of national and international corporate companies. She focuses on the incorporation and sale of shelf companies. Furthermore, she is contributing to and enhancing the digitalisation process of this field with her expert knowledge.

Andreas Dirksen worked at FORIS AG since 2016.

Andreas Dirksen is responsible for all aspects related to e-commerce, especially focusing on e-commerce solutions related to the incorporation services of FORIS Vorratsgesellschaften and GO AHEAD. Additionally he is the team leader of the FORIS Vorratsgesellschaften and GO AHEAD teams.

He has several years of experience in the development and operation of e-commerce solutions in various branches of industry.

Saskia Marie Meyer assists the financial director and is responsible for the day to day financial and business activities of FORIS AG.

Before joining us, she worked in the Accounting Department of B·A·D GmbH (Institute for Statutory Accident and Insurance Prevention) for 7 years. Saskia spent the last 3 years in the department for External Accounting and Receivables Management. During this period, she continued her professional training and gained a qualification as a Bachelor of Accounting.

Hanns-Ferdinand Müller studied Economics at the Helmut-Schmidt-University Hamburg and music at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg. Since February 2017 he is Member of the Board at FORIS AG, Bonn and Managing Director of GO AHEAD.

Before he joined FORIS Hanns-Ferdinand Müller worked for goetzpartners, Munich, a leading, international advisory firm for all key issues of entrepreneurial activity: strategy, M&A and transformation. From 2001 until 2014 he worked for RWE, from 2011 as CEO and CFO of RWE Retail Co, Dortmund. Management. Executive roles for Kienbaum and WestLB round up his professional career – the development of new markets, customer groups and new business and sales models were always focus of his professional life.

Previously, he was responsible for all legal and compliance matters at AlixPartners, an international management consultancy. During his nearly seven-year tenure based out of Paris and London and covering the entire EMEA region, Volker focused on commercial contracts, large-scale advisory and interim management projects, risk management and liability defense work. In 2012, Volker, together with his colleagues of the global risk management team, was recognized for the team’s ‘Achievements in Excellence’. Before joining AlixPartners, Volker worked several years as an attorney in Munich, initially with Westpfahl & Spilker, a law firm specializing in complex litigation, later with international law firm Eversheds. His clients from various industries were primarily German and European mid-market players as well as European subsidiaries of large U.S. corporations. Volker’s expertise ranges from commercial and corporate law to product liability and insurance law. A significant portion of Volker’s work was to represent his clients in court proceedings across Germany. One of his main clients, Tyco International, chose Volker as secondee to serve as part of its European legal and compliance team and to manage all day-to-day legal work and dispute resolution for the group’s businesses in the DACH region.

Volker has studied law and dispute resolution in Kiel, New York and Los Angeles. He earned his PhD with a thesis on “mass torts in international private law”. As part of his legal training, Volker worked for the German Consulate General and with international law firm Baker McKenzie in São Paulo. He is a member of the German-Brazilian Lawyers’ Association, trained as a specialized insurance law attorney and a certified bank clerk. Volker speaks German, English, French and Portuguese.

Rolf coordinates that the Data Protection Directives and Regulations are adhered to. He supports the executive board in all matters of Corporate Compliance. Furthermore, he is responsible for advising clients on the incorporation/formation of the shelf companies and on all issues concerning the Go Ahead GmbH.

A look at FORIS’ history

FORIS was incorporated in 1996. We invented commercial litigation funding in 1998 and have been establishing it as a successful instrument in the German speaking world. This was a revolution, because since then claimants have been able to enforce their claims without risking their own cash. After our stock was publicly offered and traded (IPO) in 1999, we expanded and broadened our services by founding several daughter companies offering many different legal services. In 2016, we bundled these services and are offering them under the name of FORIS. Now our customers receive all of our services and products from a single source.

We strictly separate the employee’s private interests from the interests of the company. The Board of Directors and supervisors help employees in unclear situations of conflict with support and advice.

Confidential information about our company (insider information) and our client will not be disclosed to third parties and not used for personal purposes. We take precautions to ensure that unauthorised persons do not have access to such information. We deal responsibly with company property.
